ATSIAP
ATSIAP is an aspirant-educational program that has a long and unique history of improving educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in Queensland. This program has been one of the recognised factors in supporting the retention rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
The aim of the ATSIAP – Junior Student Challenge is:
- To promote individual and group learning, team co-operation and fun, whilst learning
- To meet with ATSIAP students from other schools and develop networks across the region
- For students to become more motivated and challenge themselves individually, co-operatively and creatively in academic, social and cultural pursuits
- For students to build confidence and be able to take these skills back to their own school communities
- For students to become more aware of current issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Opti-minds Challenge
Each year Aitkenvale State School enters a team of students in the Opti-Minds Challenge. This competition is held at James Cook University. Teams of students from schools in this region will compete in two challenges.
